Virtual Hogwarts

Here are a few excerpts from my favorite thread this week (besides the one where he actually punched Ivan in the nose, I liked that one too ;) ).  Jasper is a Scottish, part-giant, Ravenclaw and Cassandra is his Gryffindor girlfriend.

-------------------------------------------------

"He was sayin' awful things an' ... weel, Ah think Ah might've broken his nose." Jasper admitted reluctantly. "Ah mean, there was a lot o' blood an aw ..." he looked down at the tabletop, avoiding Cassandra's gaze.

-------------------------------------------------

"Jasper!"

Cassandra exclaimed and he heard the disapproval, the disappointment, the reprimand, even the incredulity in her voice. He cringed, but there really wasn't anything she could say that would make him feel worse over it than he already did. He felt horrible and he felt ... frightened.

He was so much bigger than everyone else.  He had to be careful. His mother had always taught him that. Why then, had he given into his temper and hit Ivan? Ivan, who was only a second year! Jasper had never really experienced his own temper like that and was associating it in his mind with his giant blood. Did his savage giant ancestry really have such a hold over him like that? He'd felt like he had no control.

"Ah know!" he replied, dropping his forehead down onto the table, his large shoulders hunching in shame. "He's alrecht ... but Ah ... Ah ... Ah shouldnae done it. Ah lost meh temper an' ... an' meh control." Surely she would hate him now. At that moment, he very much hated himself. "Niver min' whit he said," Jasper evaded. How could he repeat the horrible things to Cassandra that Ivan had said and insinuated about her? "It doesnae matter. It's my fault." He was surprised there had been no consequences thus far, apart from his own self-loathing. Surely Ivan was going to tell someone?

-------------------------------------------------
Perhaps Jasper had been wrong when he'd supposed nothing Cassandra could say would make him feel worse. Her assertion that she wasn't mad at him just about did it. "Yer nae mad at me? Aam mad at me!" Jasper exclaimed dejectedly, though he did pick his head up from the table. Cass wanted to know what Ivan had said, and she obviously wasn't going to drop it. He decided to tell her vaguely. "He jist said saem things abit ... abit you an' ... weel, ye with some Slytherin fellows." he told her haltingly. "Ah dunnae believe 'im." Jasper assured her quickly, "But it ... it made meh ... Ah lost me temper."

He actually looked at her then. "Ah dunnae wan' tae be like that, Cass." he said imploringly. "Ah dunnae wan' tae be ... dangerous." He blinked rapidly behind his glasses, trying to get rid of the moisture that was threatening to turn into tears. Maybe he hadn't shown a lot of control over his emotions today, but he would not cry.
